Areas of Focus

  • “…term(s) that describes a way of being in the world. It is neither entirely a disorder nor entirely an asset. It is an array of traits specific to a unique kind of mind. It can become a distinct advantage or an abiding curse, depending on how a person manages it.” - Adapted from ADHD 2.0 by Edward M. Hallowell, M.D.

Here neurodiversity is not treated as a label but as a unique trait of the individual. Present culture is still making the journey from “Awareness” to “Acceptance”. Here, I foster a mindset to strive for wellness within the challenges we face. On the other side, I educate loved ones and professionals to be supportive and accepting so these individuals can have peace to just “be” unapologetically themselves.

  • Individuals seek relief emotions that overwhelm and cause dysfunction in their lives. Foundational coping skills are tools to use in the present “here and now” to regulate how intense you experience them. To become more effective and resilient, we explore more in depth what emotions are and why we have them. Using multiple perspectives, it is a journey of self-discovery and understanding the human experience across the life-span of how our experiences have shaped our anxieties, anger, depression, stress, and other emotions.

  • As individuals or as parents, understanding our own behaviors or that of others like our children isn’t quite an easy as asking, “Why did you do that?”. Understanding behaviors takes a multidisciplinary lens. I provide education from an evidenced based, person-in-environment, neuroscience, trauma-informed, developmental, and psychological perspective. Together we build insight to explore tools that build motivation, problem solving, conflict resolution, communication skills, boundary setting, compromise, critical thinking, and confidence. This process fosters independence by maintaining the value of autonomy and accountability in decision making. Change is not linear, and perfection should not be expected immediately. Mistakes are seen as evidence that we are trying.

  • Life consists of many beginnings and endings. Some will be welcomed with excitement and confidence. Others unavoidable and faced with uncertainty. In either, change holds challenges for individuals to grow through new experiences. The concept of who we are and what we are capable of require learning and expanding. I assist client with many transitions from childhood to teenage identity development, adolescents to independence (as well as parents transitioning as caregivers to supporting roles), building relationships and families, divorce, loss and grief, and relocating.

  • I work with clients ages 8 to 50+. Each stage in an individuals life span hold unique experiences that challenge propelling them to grow and adapt. Completing each stage successfully will be a protective factor for the next stage’s challenges.

Services

Initial Consult

Not sure if therapy is right for you—or if I’m the right therapist? A short phone consultation lets us discuss your needs, explore the therapeutic approaches I use, and determine whether working together would be a good match. If it seems like another specialty might better serve you, I’ll gladly provide guidance on next steps.

Assessment & Treatment Planning

Therapy begins with a comprehensive, biopsychosocial assessment that clarifies your history, concerns, and goals. Additional evidence-based assessments are utilized for specific needs such as executive functions, anxiety, depression, independent living skills, and safety. From this, a collaborative treatment plan is created with you. Clients will know to expect and how therapy can help them reach their goals.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy sessions are 60 minutes and can be scheduled weekly, biweekly, or monthly. Beginning with a check-in and safety assessment, clients may guide the session based on current needs, otherwise sessions can be formatted for psychoeducation, skill-building, processing, or case management, such as school accommodations or community resources. Sessions are structured yet flexible, ensuring space for both goal-oriented work and immediate concerns. Ongoing assessments will continue to provide feedback on progress and if treatment plan is effective or should be modified.

Family Therapy

Family therapy may include parent-only sessions or sessions with both parents and the client, depending on treatment needs. I typically meet with parents every three to four sessions to review progress, provide feedback, and discuss strategies. When family sessions are indicated, I collaborate openly with clients and parents to set goals and create actionable steps for growth.
